Leonardo Sorbelli

Being born in 1991 exposed me to the Jurassic Park wave that inspired many aspiring paleontologists around the world. Some kids grew out of this passion, but others did not. I am among those who decided to dedicate their lives to the study of creatures from the past.
I obtained my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Perugia (Italy), where I began studying the large mammals of the Quaternary in the Italian peninsula. During my PhD in Palaeontology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), I focused on the taxonomy, paleobiology, and distribution of Bison and Sus from the Pleistocene of the Western Palaearctic. My work aimed to untangle the evolutionary history of these two iconic elements of both past and modern Eurasian mammal assemblages. Alongside my research activities, I have participated in numerous paleontological excavation campaigns since 2010 across various European localities in Italy, Spain, and France.
I am currently a Humboldt postdoctoral fellow at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin, where I am focusing on the evolution of Bovidae in Europe over the last 23 million years.
